By observation, we found that there are some of our Chinese friends in university who don’t enjoy the courses that they are studying. However, they are unlikely to express their feelings to their parents, who may have influenced their field of study. We wondered whether their families and cultural backgrounds are the key factors that lead to this situation, so we created a questionnaire addressed to university students and graduates from both Western and Eastern cultures. As a result, students irrespective of cultural background revealed that the problem of the generation gap between teenagers and their parent was the main issue.
From the students’ feedback, we realized that teenagers want their parents to listen to their voices, instead of telling them what to do. Therefore, we are going to create a series of advertisements to raise awareness of the importance of communication which we think is the key to breaking this generational boundary.
